Suizhou Meteorite — A Meteorite Fragment Containing New Mineral
L6
Shuzhou Prefecture, Hubei Province, China

The Suizhou meteorite shower occurred on April 15, 1986 in China’s Hubei Province. Suizhou is most widely known for containing a mineral never before seen in nature; found in the thin veins of shock melt running through Suizhou is a new high-pressure polymorph of the mineral merrillite. Suizhou also provides some of the best specimens of a “cream matrix with rich black fusion crust” meteorite—an ideal richly evident in this attractive fragment.
