RILEY, ART. 1911-1998.
Original illustration, gouache on board, 12 x 15 1/2 inches, Burbank, CA., n.d. [c. 1940s], titled "Santa's Problems," signed ("Art Riley") at bottom right corner. Some soiling to edges, barely affecting margins, else fine.
A whimsical illustration of a confused Santa Claus, overwhelmed by his seasonal responsibilities, consulting a United States map at a crossroads.
Art Riley produced work for Walt Disney's animation studios for nearly 30 years, and was credited in virtually every Disney feature from Pinocchio to The Jungle Book. When Disneyland was created in the 1950s, Riley created a series of watercolors defining the look of the great amusement park.
