    Note:
"Anchored only by the thicket of trees and flooded with warm light, the bright, floating objects are isolated from each other as in a child's view. August Gay was a contemplative painter, preferring to stay in Gile's garden to hiking in the hills in pursuit of subjects. He often painted Gile's red chair; perhaps it evoked for him his friend's presence." p. 63
