Footnotes

  • Provenance:
    Charles Jones African Art

This door was photographed while in situ by William Fagg in 1958, and at that time, attributed to Olowe (the lot is accompanied by a photograph and letter from the William Fagg archives). Though the style of the figures is in low relief compared to Olowe’s other doors, it is likely that this is an early carving by the master, made while he was still developing his style.
