From the Havell edition of The Birds of America, handcolored engraving with aquatint and etching printed on J. Whatman Turkey Mill 1834 paper, the full sheet, colors fresh, in good condition aside from foxing on verso (visible on recto in places), 9 short tears at left margin corresponding to binding holes (1 extending 1/8in into image), 2 additional short tears at upper and lower margins, 3/4 x 1/2in paper loss at upper right sheet corner, mat and backboard staining, water spotting in trees left of crane’s head (visible at a raking light), traces of glue remains in places along upper and lower sheet edges, framed.
