Heliotype portrait frontispiece. 8vo (215 x 160 mm). Original green cloth decorated and lettered in gilt and black. Light rubbing to portrait, hinges cracked, light rubbing to binding with a couple of areas of surface insect wear and touch of wear to spine ends and to corners.

First American edition, early state, the title-page a cancel (2nd state as usual), the illustration captioned "Him and another Man" in contents as p 88 (first state); 11th line from bottom of p 57 reads "... with the was ..." (first state), p 155 pagination with the final 5 lacking (first or second state), portrait frontispiece with the tablecloth not visible but imprint of Heliotype (second state). BAL 3415.
