Six iron sukashi tsuba
Edo Period
All displaying wear commensurate with age: the first a Kyoto sukashi tsuba in an unidentified design of rectangles within a circular rim, circa 1600; the second a good 17th century Iyo Shoami school plate cut as a stylized blossom, signed Shoami Yoshihisa, the surfaces with traces of gold inlay; the third a 17th century Owari guard fashioned in a design of overlapping ken and lightning bolts (oxidation and some pitting); the last three all Kyoto Shoami plates, one circa 1600, in mokko form with a sylized vegetal design, the other two both circa 1700, one rendered as a chrysanthemum blossom, the other with a leaf and fruit design, all three with surfaces enhanced with later applied gilt lacquer.
