The above work dates from Sekoto's Eastwood period when the artist found new subjects and an artistic vitality away from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town.

    Lindop writes:
"During 1945-47 Sekoto painted prolifically in Eastwood. These were the 'golden years' of his art. He concentrated on oil paintings, all of which displayed a new found confidence and maturity. His intuitive and acute sense of colour combined with an assured brush stroke charecterize a series of masterful paintings. Eastwaood and its surroundings provided inspiration for these compositions, and there he was able to capture the poignant and transient moments of everyday life".

We are grateful to Barbara Lindop for her assistance with the preparation of this catalogue entry.
