The upper section of each rectangular panel depicting a narrative scene with a pair of figures, one depicting The Dragon King approaching a warrior wielding a staff, the other alluding to a Buddhist narrative about shooting a wild goose, well executed with carved inlay of ivory together with gilt and color hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, e-nashji and okibirame on a kinji and usu-nashiji ground, the lower section with gilt and silver lacquered bird-and-flower panels reserved on a dense ground of scrolling leafy tendrils, further scrolling tendrils on the outer frame, the reverse scattered with dissolving foliate and butterfly roundels silhouetted against dense nashiji (restorations, chips, surface wear).
