A suitcase filled with dozens of items from the screenwriter's professional and personal life including: a number of stunning watercolor paintings he created in the 1920s of movie stars such as Gloria Swanson, Constance Bennett, and Norma Talmadge; 1940s-era playbills from The Pasadena Playhouse; 1950s-era newspaper clippings relating to his work in Hollywood; two 1960s-era address books listing his friends such as Howard Hughes, King Vidor, Lillian Gish, Joan Crawford, George Cukor, and Bessie Love among many others; personal snapshots and professional headshots of himself; a few black and white movie stills; and a large amount of his personal papers, letters, and legal documents; overall, an intimate little archive from old Hollywood.

  • DeWitt Bodeen [1908-1988] is best remembered for writing the films "Cat People" (1942), "I Remember Mama" (1948), and "Billy Budd" (1962), as well as numerous episodes of television series in the 1950s. He was also a prolific "script doctor" and, though uncredited, he helped countless screenwriters, producers, and directors better their own projects. Additionally, Bodeen was a fine art artist (see his watercolors in this lot) and frequently painted in his spare time.
