  Nuffield College, Oxford.
  
  For a long period of time the present lot was hung in the Fellows' Dining Room at Nuffield College.
  
  In 1960 Souza visited Italy on an Italian Government scholarship, where he completed a series of paintings which were later exhibited under the title Twenty-Seven Paintings from Rome at Gallery One in London. The present lot is very probably an Italian scene from this series.
