Footnotes

  • By family repute, this bottle with its unrecorded seal is one of a group of bottles purchased from Panshanger House, Hertfordshire in 1950/51. The contents of the house, originally the residence of Earl Cowper, were dispersed at auction prior to its demolition in 1952. Built in 1801, that residence was built on the site of an earlier manor house belonging to the Cowpers from which this bottle may have originated.
