A good pair of Worcester dessert baskets
circa 1770
of shallow oval form, the entwined handles applied at the terminals with delicate flowers, 'hot cross bun' buds and leaves, the sides pierced with interlocking circles and applied with florets at the intersections, the interiors painted with elaborate flower sprays, reserved on a scale blue ground within fine gilt scrollwork, 13.5cm wide, crescent marks (one basket with two restored flowers on terminals and two buds missing, otherwise a few minute chips to applied florets) (2)

  • Please note, in addition to damage already mentioned in the catalogue, one of these baskets has some very fine hairline cracks in the piercing and four of the applied florets are replacements. These baskets are 23.5cm long not 13.5cm as misprinted
