Footnotes

  • This sitar was one of the first made commercially available. It was acquired by Chips Moman in the mid-1960s and was used on the Box Tops' 1968 hit record 'Cry Like A Baby' as well as many recordings by country music artist Waylon Jennings. In Chips' 'American Recordings' studio it was the used as the 'studio' sitar. In 1969 Elvis Presley recorded his legendary Memphis sessions there, and on two of the tracks a Coral Sitar is used. As Chips only had one Coral Sitar it is likely that this is the instrument used, however it was played by Reggie Young, Chips' regular session guitarist. It has also been suggested that this instrument was used on Duane Allman's 'Anthology', which was also recorded at Chips' studio.
