Footnotes

  • Note:
Byars, who has said that the three people he admires most are “Stein, Einstein and Wittgenstein,” proposed a performance for the opening reception of an exhibition honoring Gertrude Stein and her brother Leo at the Museum of Modern Art, New York on December 17, 1970. The museum declined to sponsor it. During the opening, however, Byars and ten assistants, some of them from the museum staff, handed out a one page book by Byars, which quotes one hundred sentences from Stein.
From The Perfect Thought by James Elliot (p. 99).
