Footnotes

  • Note:
Although Douglas Huebler was born in 1924, he made a relatively belated appearance in American art circles, only exhibiting seriously from 1966 onwards.
The first of his solo shows to display a conceptual nature took place in November 1968 in Seth Seigelaub's apartment at 1100 Madison Avenue, New York. It was at the same address, on the occasion of a joint show in January 1969, where Barry, Huebler, Kosuth and Weiner came together for the first time. Here Huebler proclaimed what was to become a guiding article of faith: The world is full of objects, more or less interesting: I do not wish to add any more. I prefer, simply to state the existence of things in terms of time and / or place. From "Douglas Huebler: Variable, etc.", published on the occasion of Douglas Huebler's Exhibition, F.R.A.C Limosin, Les Cooperateurs, Limoges, Dec 11, 1992-Mar 15, 1993.
