Gustave Loiseau, an Impressionist painter, was born in Paris in 1865. As a young man, he was apprenticed to a decorator and would go on to briefly study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He received some of his best training while working with the major Impressionists of his time including, Gauguin, Pissarro, Monet and Sisley. After a brief period of pointillist experimentation, Loiseau would continue in a post-Impressionist manner, mostly concentrating on landscape painting. He appeared to have a keen interest in depicting bodies of water including the Dordogne, Dieppe and the banks of the Seine. Loiseau is best known for his exceptional use of light and depictions of the seasons.
