    Note:
Through his experiments with assemblage collage, reliefs, and sculptural forms, Jean Arp’s artistic endeavors created a bridge between the Dada and Surrealist movements. As a founding father of Dada, he created an aesthetic that synthesized principles of randomness and chance rather than design. An interest in Automatism and the subconscious also influenced his work.

His exploration of the transformative qualities of nature were first conveyed in his works on paper and through early experiments with reliefs in marble, bronze and wood. His Cubist tendencies dissolved as he created organic and biomorphic reliefs in bronze, depicted here in the work entitled, Relief Architectonique Vegetal. The work successfully illustrates Arp’s fascination with mutation in converging masses.
