Footnotes

  • Provenance:
Acquired from a European dealer in 1990.

    Literature:
Cf. W. Needler, Predynastic and Archaic Egypt in The Brooklyn Museum, (Brooklyn 1984), p.297, nos 215-220. The standard Egyptian unit of weight was the Deden, which originally equated to 13 grams, but at the end of the Middle Kingdom was changed to 91 grams. The Qedet was then introduced which equalled 1/10th of a Deben or 9.1 grams - most of these weights should roughly conform to a the Deden and Qedet although slight variances due to wear would be expected.
