  • Internet reference: see Roy C. Harris Clocks (www.rchclocks.fsnet.co.uk/LCA.html) for a similar "very distinctive and desirable [lantern] clock" by John Holloway's brother William, also of Stroud, with alarm and anchor escapement, circa 1687. Matching details include the sea creature-engraved fretwork, the rebated and incised spandrels accommodating the pillars (the two brothers were reputedly the only exponents of this particular pillar), the six-pointed alarm dial. Here, John is recorded as "of Devizes".
