An imposing early 19th Century inlaid mahogany 8-day painted dial longcase clock
The 14-inch arched dial having a moon phase painted with a sailing ship and a landscape with ruin over terrestrial hemispheres, the Roman numerals framing subsidiary seconds and date dials, the spandrels painted with the Four Seasons, the movement with false plate and moon phase by E. Owen (both named), and brass backplate stamped Wm HAIR BIRMINGHAM (fl.c.1809), with anchor escapement, rack striking on a bell, the shaped hood with swan-neck mouldings flanked by a frieze finely decorated with a quiver of arrows, floral sprays, diaperwork and urns, the arch glazed door with integral fluted sunken columns between a pair of matching pillars, the trunk with inlaid frieze and shaped arched short door between reeded columns (one loose and depleted) above an inlaid base, on later plinth 250cm high (sold with two weights, pendulum and winder)
