[DALLAS (GEORGE)]
A Biographical Memoir of the late Sir Peter Parker... Killed in Action while Storming the American Camp at Bellair, near Baltimore, first edition, INSCRIBED ON TITLE BY AUGUSTA LEIGH "given to me by the dearest Friend of Peter Parker - George Campbell, Oct. 2nd 1815", engraved portrait frontispiece on india proof paper mounted, light browning, title and frontispiece detached, uncut in publisher's boards, worn, 4to, Longman, Hurst, 1815

Footnotes

  • A memoir composed by the father-in-law of Sir Peter Parker, himself a first cousin of the poet George Gordon, Lord Byron. The present work contains an elegy by Byron, whose half-sister was Augusta Leigh, to whom this copy was presented. It seems unlikely that the George Campbell mentioned in the inscription is the Kilmarnock poet (1761-1817), although his mother's maiden name was Parker (ODNB).
