    The author's presentation copy to his daughter, who was responsible for the engraved vignette of the lighthouse on the secondary title-page. On page 530 he notes "To Miss Stevenson, also, as an amanuensis, the writer takes this opportunity, with parental affection, of acknowledging his obligation for almost the entire manuscript written to his dictation".
