Footnotes

  • Joachim Wendt (1830-1917) was born in Denmark and migrated to Australia in 1854, he established himself as a watch maker and later expanded to produce jewellery and silver. By now a British national, he was appointed jeweller to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. The marks to the collar of the cup appear to be overstamped, this coupled with an applied base and signs of patching of further marks to the cover would suggest that Wendt took an earlier cup and adapted it to the specifications of the client.
