- Paul Feiler has offered the following comment on this lot:
My first child had just been born and I did a lot of drawings and several sculptures to do with the same subject. Its main image was naturally based on the traditional Madonna and Child - which includes Russian icons. On either side of the figure, enclosing the Mother and Child, are symbolized papyrus flowers. I used these to indicate reverence for a new life. The flowers of the papyrus were used as garlands for the shrines to the gods, and the pith of the papyrus was used for food.
