The poet and playwright Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) stayed at Oriental Cottage, Lamorna in the late 1930s with his fiancee Caitlin Macnamara. In a letter to Nancy and Haydn Taylor he describes the Cottage as having a "jungle garden and three lavatories." (Op.Cit.letter from Thomas to Nancy and Haydn Taylor 20.6.37).
At the time Oriental Cottage, situated near Birch's studio in Lamorna belonged to the printer Waldo Sibthorp and his wife Veronica. The artist John Armstrong (1893-1973), Veronica Sibthorp's third husband, lived at the cottage from 1947 to 1955.
