Bill Guthman proposed that "Chances are that Peck made the fusil for one of the local Rhode Island or Reheboth Carpenters". Ambrose Peck of Swanzey served in Colonel Thomas Carpenter's 1st Bristol County Regiment. Thomas Carpenter was from Reheboth. It is possible that the fusil was made for his cousin Abel Carpenter, also from Reheboth, who served as a 2nd lieutenant in the 2nd Rhode Island Regiment. Abel Carpenter saw action at Monmouth and Red Bank and was wounded by a musketball in a skirmish at Harlem Heights. See Amos B. Carpenter. A Genealogical History of the Reheboth Branch of the Carpenter Family. Amherst, Mass.: Carpenter & Morehouse, 1898. p.277.
