An eagle head dragoon saber
With 30 5/8 inch curved blade with broad shallow central fuller. Eaglehead pommel with open beak cast and chased in relief with plumage. Gilt brass knucklebow. Crossguard with raised diamond panels acting as langets flanked by acanthus leaves terminating in pierced oval quillons. Checkered wooden grip. Full gilt brass scabbard with engraved acanthus borders. The front with foliate sprays with acorns, the arms of the State of Pennsylvania, 13 stars in an oval. Embossed suspension mounts the reverse of each with acanthus leaf, the front of one with a gladius within a garland and the other with an eagle with wings outstretched in flight. Suspension rings and suspension chain on top mount with intertwined rings. Suspension hook and spring-loaded suspension clip.
Condition: Blade with polished grey metal patina. Much gilding on pommel and guard. Wood grip is modern. Scabbard with traces of gilding and scattered dents.
