Thomas Blinks is one of the finest of the nineteenth century sporting painters. He showed an early aptitude for drawing, and although he received no formal training, his eye for detail and for capturing the character of a subject or the essence of a moment are unparalleled.
He exhibited widely in London and elsewhere, showing twenty nine works at the Royal Academy between 1883 and 1910 .

Our picture is one of the largest and most spectacular to be seen on the market for many years. Typically, the composition features Setters, in this case relaxed, but alert, at the edge of a wood. Consigned from a private collection in Australia, the picture was reproduced by color lithograph and was originally titled 'Drop'.
