Worcs vine leaf shaped pickle dish
A very rare Worcester leaf shaped pickle dish
circa 1757-8
Modelled in the shape of a vine leaf with a serrated rim and small stalk at the base, the underside moulded with veins, painted in colours with a flower spray and sprigs in Meissen style, 8.8cm (3 1/2in) wide (two minute nicks to the serrated rim only)

Footnotes

  • Because of the problems caused by salts and acids in pickles and preserves, most factories produced pickle dishes in underglaze blue only. A few Worcester examples with overglaze decoration occur from the later 1760s and 1770s but no other example from this early period appears to be recorded.
