Footnotes

  • Masonic prints on Worcester porcelain are well known, whereas this painted version is extremely rare and has not previously been recorded. Gilding is rarely added to Worcester blue and white and it is possible the gold line around the foot was introduced to disguise firing imperfections. For a Worcester mug with a similar treatment of an armorial shield, placed within palm fronds, see H. Rissik Marshall, Coloured Worcester Porcelain, plate 35, no. 761.
