The late 1930’s were difficult years for Rudge, their earlier successes in the TT now being eclipsed by history. The 250cc lightweight was introduced for the 1935 season and in 1937 the company was bought by EMI and production moved to Hillingdon. For the 1938 season a 250cc two-valve Sports was introduced, however production ceased in December 1939 when the factory was switched to radar manufacture for the war effort. This machine was first registered in Hull on 25th May 1939 and has remained in the Hull area throughout its life. It is believed that it was last used in 1996 and therefore will benefit from usual careful recommissioning prior to use. It is smartly presented in traditional Rudge black livery with gold lining and tank detail and is equipped with the high exhaust of the Sports model. We are advised that the magneto has been overhauled in recent years and the bike is offered in running order with old style log book and Swansea V5C document.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:

25% up to £50,000 of hammer price,
20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalogue.

Payment Notices

Payment in advance: by cash, cheque with banker's card, credit card, bank draft or traveller's cheque.

Payment at collection: by credit or debit card.

Credit card charges: a surcharge of 2% is applicable when using Mastercard, Visa and overseas debit cards.
