Velocette LE,
c.1952 Velocette 192cc LE
Registration no. USU 461
Frame no. 14111
Engine no. 15562
Launched in 1948, as the ‘motorcycle for everyman’, the LE addressed the criticisms most-often levelled at motorcycles - that they were noisy, dirty and needed special clothing to ride - achieving impressive levels of silence, comfort and practicality. The LE was a big success with police forces - for whom its attributes were more important than its appearance - gaining the soubriquet ‘Noddy Bike’ as a result. The vendor purchased this example in Barnstaple, Devon in 1989. Last taxed for the road in 1990, it has seen little use since and last ran three years ago; re-commissioning will be required before it returns to the road. The machine is offered with old-style logbook, expired tax discs/MoT, owner’s manual and handbook, Velocette LE book (Osprey), assorted literature and Swansea V5 document.
