1964 BMW 247cc R27
Registration no. EBH 490B
Frame no. 300519
Engine no. 300519
Built to the same exemplary standards as the Bavarian companys famous flat-twins, the 250cc single-cylinder BMW had, by 1956, evolved into the Earles fork-equipped R26, while its final development - the R27 - arrived in 1960 boasting a rubber-mounted engine. Considerably more expensive than home-grown 250s, the BMW was always a relative rarity in the UK where it appealed to mature, discerning riders for whom quality of construction counted more than mere outright performance. Benefiting from an engine rebuilt by a recognised specialist, this R27 has been in the current ownership for some considerable time. Once used regularly to take its owner to work, it has been kept in storage since his retirement around 20 years ago, yet fired up almost immediately when a fresh battery was fitted last month! Nevertheless, careful re-commissioning is advised before further use. The machine is offered with Swansea V5.
