The 500T was Norton Motors’ answer to the trials successes of its manufacturing rivals AMC and Royal Enfield. Originally composed of a mixture of ES2 and 16H parts, the large and heavy original was considerably refined in 1949 with a shorter wheelbase and much lighter components. Despite this, the machine remains much more rare than its competitors, Norton’s competition interests having always been directed towards racing. This 500T had a considerable competition history in the hands of R.H. (Bob) Dufty, a highly successful Midlands rider both pre- and post-war in local and national trials. Unused for many years, following discovery among the estate of its former rider, it will need careful checking over before use. In complete, seemingly original and sound condition, the 500T comes with its V5 document. Its history at delivery should still be available from the Wolverhampton registration archives and it is hoped that more may be known by the date of sale.
