1947/1955 Norton 500cc Featherbed Inter special
1947/1955 Norton 500cc Featherbed Inter special
Registration no. JGC 687
Frame no. B 9640
Norton Motors first combined their proven ohc 500 International engine and the then new featherbed frame in 1953 to make what was, in effect, a Manx for the general public - not that it was ever sold in any numbers before production ceased in the late 1950’s. This machine is a version of that formula put together by well-known Midlands trials rider R H (Bob) Dufty in 1955, utilising a 1947 ‘Inter’ engine and a cambox-clearance Dominator 88 Featherbed frame. The outfit was apparently campaigned in sidecar form in 1955/56 in the Midlands area, the rider retiring from competition in 1957. When consigned, much of the machine had still to be found amongst the estate of its owner and constructor and close inspection is invited before the sale. A V5 is present, along with some original papers, enabling either a rebuild to either 1947 or 1955 specification.
Sold for £5,290 inc. premium
