Footnotes

  • Accompanied by GIA report #15212596, dated August 21, 2006, stating: natural, fancy brown-yellow color.

When Joanne Carson moved to Los Angeles and started attending parties with Capote, he noticed that her jewelry was a little discreet for Hollywood circles. She always wore small pieces, lovely, but easily outshone by the high-wattage gems all around her. On her birthday in 1972, Capote handed Joanne a box with a marvelous surprise inside: a stunning brown -- not white, not canary, but brown –- diamond, set in a magnificent ring. With the gift came Capote's words of wisdom on the subject: “Every woman should have one important piece of jewelry.”
