A George I burr and figured walnut, cross and feather banded bureau cabinet
In three sections, the upper section enclosed by a pair of crossgrain moulded edge, shaped and arched panels with old bevel edge mirror plates, below a crossgrain moulded cornice, over a fall concealing a stepped interior fitted with an old mellow leather inset, four oak lined drawers and pigeonholes and a well with two secret drawers, over a deep frieze, projecting crossgrain inset mould, and three oak lined graduated drawers, later old engraved brass shaped plate handles, within crossgrain 'D' moulded framework, crossbanded veneered sides, on bracket feet, 99.5cm wide, 62cm maximum depth, 194cm high.

  • By repute, sold in 2002, as surplus to requirements from Blarney House, Co. Cork, South West Ireland. Blarney House is 300 yards south of Blarney Castle. The bureau was the property of Lady and Sir Richard Colthurst Bt., Baronet to Blarney Castle. The Colthurst family have lived in the house and castle since 1701.
