Ancient Fossil Turtle
Trinoyx sp.
Eocene
Green River Formation, Fossil Butte Member, Lincoln County, Wyoming
Reptiles are highly prized in the fossil collections of museums and private collectors and fossil turtles of fine quality are especially coveted. Often, specimens of excellent quality, such as the present example, are many times sold before their existence is known by the general public. The present extraordinary specimen, a three-foot Trionyx, is from one of the most famous fossil localities in the world. Exhibiting a magnificent skull, the specimen is extremely well articulated, with restoration on the tail. A small Priscacara liops and a large Diplomystus dentatus accompany the turtle in the calcium carbonate limestone shale.
