Six iron sukashi tsuba
Edo Period
The first, circa 1700 Kyoto Umetada work, fashioned in the form of a rabbit, its exaggerated ears forming the rim and his head inlaid in silver (wear, light oxidation); the second circa 1700 Sendai style, designed as wood lattice work (light oxidation); the third Shoami school circa 1800 worked in the form of a curled dragon-headed halberd with gold inlaid details (wear); the fourth a circa 1850 Ito plate with cutwork decoration of a squirrel and fruiting grapevines, signed Mizukosu Setsuhisa saku; the last two both Kyoto sukashi, one circa 1800 cut into an abstracted scrolling design, the other circa 1850 designed as confronted saddles and abumi enclosed in a circular rim.
