Four mixed metal inlay decorated iron tsuba
Edo Period
The first two both circa 1750, one a Shonai Shoami style plate displaying a design of leafing and fruiting vines with inlaid detals, the fruit and leaf motif repeated in an openwork design to one side, a lead plug to the hitsu ana (wear), the other a Mito school plate in mokko form featuring a design of a small bird at top above a stand of spring flowers below, one of the irregularly shaped hitsu ana plugged (rubbing); the third a mid 17th century circular plate with inlaid decoration in high relief of shishi frolicking among peonies, possibly signed Yamashiro Fuju ken (wear, small losses); the fourth a circa 1800 Saga Kaneie dai inlaid and carved with a charming design of five birds in a row on a branch above a bundle of millet (wear).
