Six mixed metal inlaid iron tsuba with figural decoration
Edo Period
The first a large circa 1800 Jakushi school mokko form plate dramatically decorated in gold and silver inlay with a seated rakkan watching a dragon emerge from his almsbowl (wear, oxidation); the second, circa 1800 Saga Kaneie sukashi work, designed as a pilgrim at the base of Mt. Fuji, its peak encircled with openwork clouds, the details accented in gold (wear, light oxidation); the remainder all Mito school works: the third late 18th century, featuring a male and female immortal in a verdant landscape set within a raised rim (wear); the fourth, mid-19th century, whimsically displaying an elephant with his attendant to the front, set within an irregular fukurin (wear); the fifth and sixth both of mokko form with gold and silver inlaid details and one shakudo hitsu plug, one circa 1750, depicting a sage seated in contemplation beneath a waterfall, the other circa 1800 with a yamabushi peering around a large tree (wear, light oxidation).
