Hall, Pieter van den Keere, and J. van Loon, included a duplicate and three pasted-in maps (one of which is folding). Folio (290 x 182 mm). Modern full brown morocco by Zaehnsdorf, gilt-stamped in a grid pattern, all edges gilt. "Meaning of Frontispiece" and additional title with neat marginal repair (first leaf also with a repaired tear and title with repaired marginal hole), neat closed tear repair on letterpress title, repaired marginal tear to 2K1, repaired marginal chips to 3U4, 4K3 with a long repaired tear, Flanders map shaved, repaired hole on p 553 affecting title of map, wormhole in lower margin to about first half of book mostly with no trail but catching a few of the larger maps.
First printing in English, with a duplicate map of New Spain on p.905, issued before the map of Virginia which was to be pasted over it. Michael Sparke's name not on the letterpress title-page, verses on A2v signed "M.S." Rare. STC 17824.5 (2 copies in America); see Phillips 451 & 4255 and Sabin 47885.
Provenance: Signatures of Thomas Most (on title, faded) and of Robert Hare (on first leaf, effaced and faded), bookplate of the Pease family and with their crest on the binding.
