The main frock of very fine Ayrshire embroidery, the bib, apron front and frills worked with scrolling and trailing foliate sprays, The flower heads worked in needle filling and pulled thread techique, with Valencienne edging, also another christening robe, an under robe, a baby's bonnet with embrodery and eyelets, a night robe etc.(qty)

  • In the box with the robes is a note of provenance stating "Two christening frocks given by Elizabeth, Lady Abercromby and Jane, Lady Colquhoun of Luss and worn by James Colquhoun 1844 and Dorothea Helen Mary Elizabeth Sutherland Colquhoun 1885."

    Dorothea's father James Colquhoun (as above) was the 5th Boronet and Dorothea later became Mrs Evelyn Carmichael of Carmichael, Jane, Lady Colquhoun was the wife of the 4th Baronet, daughter of Sir Robert Abercomby, 5th Baronet of Birkenbeg and mother of Sir James.

    The robes and other items have come by direct descent to the present owner
