Contemporary full crimson straight-grain morocco, covers with triple gilt rule surrounding gilt stylized scroll and shell border, around a triple gilt rule, surrounding a blind vine border, spine in six compartments, two of which are gilt-lettered, the others with gilt foliate border, a.e.g, first volume with fore-edge painting depicting Eve in Paradise, picking forbidden fruit, the second volume with fore-edge painting depicting the expulsion from Paradise. Some plates with light foxing, else generally internally clean, covers with light rubbing to corners, light wear to joints, several stray marks, an excellent, attractive example overall.
