A large Athabascan beaded cloth Octopus bag
The blue and green stroud bag applied each side with a polychrome spray of flowers in seed beads, each of the eight pendant tabs decorated with meandering vines, each terminating in a pair of faceted bead and wool tassels, the bag bordered overall with silk ribbon and white seed beads, 48cm.


  • Provenance:
    Accompanied by a copy of a family letter written in 1941 which explains how the bag was passed from one generation to the next: The bag was collected circa 1850 by the Reverend Cornelius Bryant from Nanaimo, who in his turn gave it to his sister Esther Ann Leonard.
