Philip Vincent’s stress on appearance and performance is legendary. His machines bristled with innovative features including adjustable footrests, brake pedal, seat height and gear-change lever. The finish was to a very high standard commensurate with the cost of the machine, which was virtually double that of any of its contemporaries. But above all else it was the v-twin’s stupendous performance that captivated motorcyclists, whether they could afford one or not. With a top speed approaching 120mph, and bettering it in the Black Shadow’s case, the Vincent v-twin was the fastest road vehicle of its day. A Series-C model, this Vincent Rapide is fitted with a Series-B Rapide engine dating from 1949. Presented in good/excellent condition, the machine has been in the vendor’s possession for the past 37 years and had its cycle parts and running gear restored by him circa 2000. It incorporates the practical upgrades of Akront alloy wheel rims, Grosset electric starter and electronic ignition. Offered with Swansea V5 registration document, the machine is expected to possess a fresh MoT by time of sale. It should be noted that the engine number is incorrectly recorded on the V5.
