Lot Details
1929 Triumph 2 1/2hp Type W
Registration no. BT 1888
Frame no. 310
Engine no. 405135RMT
The direct ancestor of this lightweight Triumph was perhaps the hugely successful two-stroke Triumph Junior, production of which straddled The Great War. The 2 1/2hp model was the smallest model in Triumph’s range in 1929, catering for the budget motorcyclist. Its light weight and dimensions ensured that it found favour with the fairer sex. Nevertheless its performance was sprightly and, although marketed as a 2 1/2hp machine to attract a lower tax rate, the actual cylinder capacity was 277cc. This highly original example came into the present family ownership in 1964 and was last taxed in 1979. It has been on long-term display in the Sewerby Hall Museum at Bridlington and will require the usual careful recommissioning. It is equipped with a Miller acetylene headlamp, rear lamp and generator, bulb horn and luggage carrier. This attractive lightweight vintage machine is offered with a Swansea V5 registration document and a period handbook.
