Footnotes

  • From the collection of Professor Sir Israel Gollancz, a close friend of Mond's widow Frida, who was to endow the British Academy lectures that now bear his name. The National Portrait Gallery's example of this fine commemorative plaque is described as being cast in bronze, but ours appears to be in nickel, a fitting commemoration of the founder of the Mond Nickel Company.
