A late 19th century French kingwood casket by Tahan
Of sarcophagus form surmounted by a cast brass gilded figure of a classical style woman crowning a child with a garland, the front mounted with a circular porcelain plaque initialled 'M.J.C.', the reverse with a floral plaque, the whole with gilt brass floral and riband swags incorporating side carrying handles on leaf and 'C' scroll feet, the interior with engraved hinge and signed along the top edge of the engraved lock 'Tahan, Paris', with a fitted velvet lined tray for gaming counters, sold with a collection of Chinese engraved mother-of-pearl gaming counters, comprising forty five circular, twenty six oval, eighty two fish, nineteen rectangular, most engraved, the box 30.5cm wide, 21cm deep, 23.5cm high.
